Once in awhile you see a breathtaking dress that stands out from the rest and you know you have to have it. You are not even sure where you are going to wear it, but you will wear it! This gorgeous "Liberty Shop" custom-made gown is THAT dress! The Liberty Shop in New Orleans was founded by two Southern ladies (Mrs. E.M. Ragan and Miss Emily Guelton) in the 1920's and headquartered in a mansion that still stands. Customers were required to make appointments in advance. They were shown to "rosewood sofas and chairs in the beautifully appointed rooms with the elaborate cornices, tall pier glasses, mantelpieces and glittering crystal chandeliers." The ladies imported gowns from Paris as well as designed their own couture creations for the wealthy patrons. This stunning garment is a perfect example of their genius. I love the shelf-bust empire asymmetric one-shoulder bodice. The velvet sash draped over the shoulder into an opulent back-train. Pieces like this dress represent weeks of hard work and dedication towards making a garment look and feel exactly like a slice of heaven.
This vintage custom-made couture gown is in excellent condition with no serious rips, stains or holes. Perfectly working back metal-zipper. This item is over 50 years old and is truly stunning!
