1950's Pierre Balmain Metallic Embroidered Organza Party Dress
Length top to waist:11 inches
Length waist to hem:26 inches
Pierre Balmain worked under Robert Pigiuet, Molyneux, and Lucian Lelong, where he worked closely with Christian Dior. In 1945 is finally opened his own couture house. Balmain created a very sculptural quality which was always allied with a ladylike essence. His garments have a body and a shape of their own. This breathtaking metallic-gold embroidered charcoal-gray floral silk-organza cocktail is a perfect example of his genius. The fabric is pure heaven and the construction is couture-level as one would expect from Pierre Balmain. There is a full corset undergarment built-in made of ivory silk-net and boning all the way around to ensure proper fit. I adore the low-cut plunge pleated strapless and matching wide applique-floral waist belt. Balmain's glamorous garments were worn by the likes of Bridget Bardot, Katherine Hepburn and Marlene Dietrich.
This garment is in very good wearable condition with some flaws to note. Perfectly working duel metal-zippers. Upon close inspection, we found small scattered holes which are hard to notice due to the heavy embroidered fabric and inner-lining. There are also some faint spots. The inside corset has the most spotting, but this is not seen when worn. Priced accordingly. It is a beautiful vintage garment for any modern event and a very rare piece indeed!
