1950's Frederick Starke Velvet & Taffeta Fishtail Cocktail Dress
Frederick Starke is most noted for designing clothing for Honor Blackman when she played Cathy Gale in the Avengers. Starke also had a retail showroom in exclusive Bruton Street which he catered to loyal clients. This breathtaking cocktail dress is a perfect example of his genius. The garment is fashioned from salmon-pink velvet & shimmer gunmetal silver silk-taffeta. The bodice is a seductive thin-straps gathered shelf-bust. I adore the hourglass nipped-waist fitted pencil-wiggle skirt with backside fishtail. The most unique part about this treasure is the ribbon-weave design throughout which gives the garment a stunning 3D effect. It is impeccably seamed and on the level of modern day couture. Here is a dress with attitude and elegant.
