1950's Alfred Shaheen Hawaiian Red-Ombre Wiggle Sarong Dress
Alfred Shaheen was the most creative and prolific Hawaiian designer in post-WWII fashion. Shaheen pioneered Hawaii's vital garment manufacturing industry by stretching beyond the limits imposed by the isolation of the Hawaiian Islands. This beautiful tropical hibiscus-floral cotton dress is a perfect example of his genuis. The print is unbelieveable- a gradient ombre red floral with sparkling metallic gold accents. I adore the low-plunge, sweetheart bodice with an optional one-shoulder trained back sash. The hourglass nipped-waist side sarong-tie finishes this garment off with an iconic "femme fatale" vibe. A rare piece of wearable art.
