  • 1925 Elspeth Champcommunal Haute-Couture Metallic Gold Lame Silk Flapper Dress

    ID: 09161720

    Size: medium

    Condition: Excellent

Breathtaking and ultra-rare Elspeth Champcommunal haute-couture metallic gold-lame and champagne silk-chiffon flapper dress dating back to 1925. Elspeth Champcommunal was a British fashion designer and the first editor of Vogue in Britain. She was influential as a designer in her own right in Paris, with an eponymous brand, later taking on the role of chief designer of Worth London. The ethereal color palette on this extraordinary garment touches a deep chord in our collective aesthetic consciousness. As fashion lovers, we never tire from antique metallics; they will always be fresh to modern eyes. The lame is even more amazing when you realize it has a gorgeous floralgarden embroidered pattern. I adore the triple-layered "light as a feather" handkerchief skirting and scalloped art-deco work. The straight column construction channels the flapper sentiment so celebrated during this era. With examples of Champcommunal's work only found in museums, here is a wonderful opportunity to own a true piece of French fashion history. The workmanship and time spent to design this masterpiece is astonishing.

    Measurements
    Bust: 36 inches
    Hips: 40 inches
    Total Length: 46 inches

This stunning Elspeth Champcommunal labeled couture dress is in excellent wearable condition. Garment slips over head with no additional closures. Only signs of age are some faint spotting to the surface silk-chiffon layer and minor tearing to parts of the net. Due to the extreme rarity of this special piece, archival cleaning left to the purchaser. All hand-finished and an investment piece that will continue to increase in value.
