  • 1930's Debenham & Freebody Metallic Gold Lamé Winged Sleeve Gown

    ID: 1015221
    Size: small
    Condition: VGood

A truly breathtaking and luxurious mid 1930's metallic gold shimmer lamé bias cut gown from the high-end London department store Debenham & Freebody. This special department store became the first of over 60 nationwide. In 1935 Debenham and Freebody advertised their fashionable model gowns under the tagline: ‘Distinction in Dress at Moderate Cost’ which was key during the historic Great Depression. Finding early examples from this rare label is incredibly hard to do let alone a gorgeous 'Old Hollywood' style showstopper. The fabric itself is a masterpiece; mid-weight sparkling gold lamé silk which molds to the body effortlessly. I adore the dramatic ruched wing-sleeve construction and bold deco built-in waist sash. This figure flattering garment accentuates the bust, skims the hip and falls to the floor beautifully. It is impeccably seamed and on the level of modern day couture. Here is a gown with attitude and elegance.

Measurements (varies a bit due to bias-cut design)
    Bust: 34-37 inches
    Waist: 24-27 inches
    Hips: up to 39 inches
    Total Length: 59 inches

This rare 1930's Debenham & Freebody couture gown is in beautiful condition with no rips, holes or alternations. After close inspection, we found some underarm discolor and a few faint spots; one on the bodice and two on the skirt which are hard to notice when worn. Please message for detailed pictures. Closes with side metal hooks and sash-belt. This gown is over 90 years old and is truly spectacular.
