  • 1950's Edith Small Seafoam Blue Rhinestone Lace Tulle One-Shoulder Dress

    ID: 0323232
    Size: small
    Condition: Excellent

An absolutely gorgeous early 1950's sparkling seafoam blue rhinestone lace and sheer tulle ballerina-length dress by Edith Small. Although originally from Chicago, in 1945 Edith Small opened her clothing house in Los Angeles, California. Small was recognized for her always feminine suits and glamorous dresses. She worked with very high quality fabrics, including French and Italian imports. While there were certainly California designers in the 1940's and 1950's who achieved a both national following in their day and the status of major American designers (for example Gilbert Adrian, Irene Lentz, Galanos and Howard Greer), there were many who, while highly respected in their working years, have faded from view almost completely.

This seafoam blue sheer net tulle and sparkling rhinestone chantilly-lace dress is a sensational example of her genius. The detailed construction and meticulous attention to detail are comparable to what you will find in modern day haute couture. From the skillful interior structural boning to the dramatic voluminous skirting, you can definitely see the Christian Dior 'New Look' influence of the time. The bodice has an elegant asymmetric one-shoulder nipped-waist. I love the unique cut-out lace appliqués throughout the skirting. Yards and yards of heavenly tulle circle skirt cascading to a ballerina length really finishes this masterpiece off with a perfect Old Hollywood vibe. This will be the dress you reach for anytime you want to look and feel like a starlet.

    Measurements
    Bust: 32-33 inches
    Waist: 26 inches
    Hips: Free Sweep
    Total Length: 48 inches

This 1950's Edith Small designer dress is in beautiful condition with no rips, holes or alternations. Perfectly working side metal-zipper and skilled inner bustier boning. Only sign of age are a few faint spots to the lace which are not noticeable when worn. Please message for detailed pictures. Highly wearable and an investment piece that will continue to increase in value.
