  • 1950's Hattie Carnegie Couture Whimsical Hand Painted Cream Silk Gown

    ID: 1106223
    Size: medium
    Condition: Excellent

A breathtaking Hattie Carnegie couture whimsical hand-painted cream silk gown dating back to the early 1950's. Hattie Carnegie led a fashion empire that set the pace of American fashion for nearly three decades. She imported Paris designs, produced custom designs and a ready-to-wear collection. Even women who could not afford to buy Carnegie originals felt the influence of her style in the many mass-market copies of her work. Carnegie made numerous trips to Paris every year, buying and importing the models of designers such as Vionnet, Chanel, Christian Dior and Schiaparelli. The gorgeous large-scale abstract print used for this ethereal beauty has a timeless allure that I find irresistible. The unique hand-painted semi sheer silk fabrication really sets this gown apart from others during this era. It almost has a Gilbert Adrian meets Schiaparelli vibe. The elegant bodice has an alluring strapless illusion with bold silk-velvet cummerbund waist. This figure flattering garment accentuates the bust, nips in at the waist and flares out in classic "Old Hollywood" style. This stunning piece of Hattie Carnegie history will instantly become a favorite in any fashion collection. The pictures say it all.

    Measurements
    Bust: 35-36 inches
    Waist: 28 inches
    Hips: Full Sweep
    Total Length: 62 inches

This Hattie Carnegie 'Blue Room" couture gown is in beautiful condition with only minor wear to note. Closes with original back center metal zipper. Only signs of age are two tiny repairs by the top bodice seams and some faint surface spots which get lost in the design. Please message for detailed pictures. Petticoat not included. A true slice of fashion history and an investment piece that will continue to increase in value.
