  • 1950's Juli Lynne Charlot Red Roses Appliqué Black Velvet Full Dress

    ID: 0323233
    Size: medium
    Condition: Excellent

An absolutely stunning 1950's red roses floral appliqué black velvet dress from the iconic California couturier Juli Lynne Charlot. Not many people know Juli Lynne Charlot was an actress turned designer. In 1947, she designed a felt circle-skirt which she decorated with appliquéd Christmas trees. The skirt was such a success that she continued to design similar skirts with embroidered and appliquéd motifs. Before long, Juli Lynne had orders from all over the country – Stanley Marcus at Neiman Marcus and Andrew Goodman at Bergdorf Goodman were early customers. By the time Juli Lynne was 24, she had a clothing factory and 50 employees. Believe it or not, Charlot was the originator of the poodle skirt!

This garment is fashioned from a stunning black mid-weight velvet with gorgeous three-dimensional roses sculpted in the same fabric. The bodice is an exquisite fully-boned sweetheart with thin shoulder straps. An hourglass nipped-waist met by the full circle-skirt finishes this garment off with a perfect New Look silhouette. Old Hollywood glamour at its finest!
