  • 1960's Helen Rose Couture Orange Silk-Chiffon Hourglass Ruffle Gown Set

    ID: 0801231
    Size: small
    Condition: Excellent

An incredibly chic and ultra rare Helen Rose couture vibrant orange semi-sheer silk chiffon hourglass gown ensemble dating back to the mid 1960's. Helen Rose won two Academy Awards for Best Costume Design: "The Bad and the Beautiful" in 1952 and "I'll Cry Tomorrow" in 1955. She was nominated a further eight times and was well-known for designing famous iconic looks of the stars of this era. She designed the wedding dress of Grace Kelly when she married Prince Rainier of Monaco in 1956. She also designed clothing for Elizabeth Taylor in the movies "Father of the Bride" and "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" as well as her bridal gown when she married Conrad Nicky Hilton. Helen Rose, like Edith Head and Irene Lentz, was one of the rare women who became chief costume designer for a major film studio. Her style was elegant and understated but still extremely innovative.
This sensational museum worthy beauty is a perfect example of her pure genius. The fabrication itself is a masterpiece; the highest quality orange silk chiffon draped into perfectly placed ruffles that look magical with movement. The fitted hourglass mermaid skirting in particular is extraordinary. The alluring nipped waist bodice has a stunning sheer illusion plunge and two tiny bows. I love the thin-strap low backside. The matching short sleeve jacket transforms the look from a 1960's bombshell to a 1930's silver screen starlet. So incredible to have two looks in one. I adore the figure flattering silhouette which Helen Rose did so well. An extremely special vintage look that is perfect of any upcoming modern wedding or red carpet event. We added many pictures so you can really understand this masterful achievement.
