  • 1970's Stavropoulos Couture Colorful Floral Print Silk Puff-Sleeve Gown

    ID: 0807223
    Size: small
    Condition: Excellent

A magical rainbow watercolor dotted floral print silk chiffon Stavropoulos Couture gown dating back to the late 1970's. George Stavropoulos was a New York fashion designer best known for his innovatively draped dresses and evening gowns that seemed to float in air. Many of his designs were influenced by the grace of classic Greek sculpture. He was couturier to celebrities such as Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Elizabeth Taylor and Barbra Streisand. His gowns were made almost entirely by hand in his own atelier. Their quality and workmanship rivaled that of Parisian Haute-Couture. They were expensive, selling for up to $7500 in the late 1970's! This unforgettable colorful print ivory silk chiffon gown is of the highest quality and a wonderful example of his genius. The watercolor print alone is marvelous. The bodice has a gorgeous sheer sweetheart with incredible sculpted puff-sleeves. This flattering design is such a nod to 1930's fashion! I love the optional light-blue sash. The chic nipped-waist maxi length with layers of layered silk chiffon is so ethereal. Stavropoulos ignored fashion trends and women buying one of his gowns know that it will never go out of style. We added many pictures so you could appreciate this beautiful achievement.

    Measurements
    Bust: 32-33 inches
    Waist: 25 inches
    Hips: up to 40 inches
    Total Length: 58 inches

This Stavropoulos designer garment is in excellent condition with no noticeable rips, holes or discoloration. Perfectly working back-zipper. This gorgeous garment is made up of layered semi sheer silk-chiffon and inner lining. A rare slice of fashion history.
