  • 1943 Gilbert Adrian Couture Black Beaded Strapless Gown Worn By Lana Turner

A breathtaking Gilbert Adrian designed gown for Lana Turner's performance in the 1943 MGM production of Slightly Dangerous. He created the signature looks for the great Hollywood divas such as Garbo, Shearer, Crawford, Garland, and Harlow. Adrian took into account the actress as well as the character she would be portraying when he designed a dress, suit or ensemble. He surveyed her attitudes, her personal style, and her body to find the look that would make her shine. As a result, he created a definitive look that women all over the world wanted to have for themselves. The retail marked jumped to produce affordable dresses that imitated Adrian's creation. Gilbert Adrian pieces are very rare and a prized piece to any vintage collection.

This amazing Gilbert Adrian gown is an Old Hollywood masterpiece. The whole garment is adorned with black bugle beads flowing in various directions, with boning built into the interior bodice. The seductive sweetheart plunge flows into a nipped hourglass waist, cascading into a sleek dramatic train. Not only is this gown one of the best examples I have ever seen from this designer on the market, it is one of the most recognizable gowns from Lana Turner's publicity photographs. The costume was featured on the poster art for the 1943 film, Slightly Dangerous. Capitalizing on Turner's femme fatale roles, the publicity photos of her wearing the gown are provocative and sensual; perfectly capturing the 1940's glamour goddess at her peak. A garment like this is a one-of-a-kind designer couture treasure and a true piece of celebrity fashion history.

    Measurements
    Bust: 33-34 inches
    Waist: 25 inches
    Hips: 37 inches

This Gilbert Adrian custom couture made gown for Lana Turner is in excellent condition with no serious damage to note. Perfectly working hand-set hook eye closures and full inner corset-boning. Only signs of age are some missing beadwork and loose strans of beads from wear. As shown, the gown is also missing the original silk halter strap. Due to serious historical significance, we have not tried to repair the gown and leave this to the new owner. Comes with certificate of authenticity and full provenance. An investment piece that will continue to increase in value.
