  • 1987 Azzedine Alaia Documented Golden Print Silk Backless Halter Dress

    ID: 0905203
    Size: medium
    Condition: VGood

An iconic golden marble print silk dress from Azzedine Alaia's 1987 Spring-Summer collection. The same dress was famously worn by Madonna for the cover of Cosmopolitan Magazine July issue. In the 1980's when most of the fashion world was embracing sharp shouldered power dressing and baggy androgyny, Alais introduced the world to the 'body' and to his own skin tight dresses. Truly a showcase for the perfect human form, his looks sat alongside the more masculine power suits of the decade. As Suzy Menkes said, "If there were any justice in this fashion world, Azzedine Alaia would be a worldwide household name, instead of a cult hero. He defined the way an entire generation dresses and become the fashion revolution of the last decade." This stunning golden marble print silk dress is a perfect example of his genius. The bodice has a deep plunge halter with a dramatic backless design. I adore the drawstring style middle closure and heavily pleated skirting. As the great Alaia once stated, "When I see beautiful clothes, I want to keep them, preserve them; clothes, like architecture and art, reflect an era."

    Measurements
Bust: varies due to backless halter
    Waist: 27 inches
    Hips: free sweep
    Total Length: 35 inches

This vintage Alaia designer dress is in wonderful wearable condition with no stains or discoloration. Garment closes with front middle hook closure. Only sign of wear are some tiny pin-sized holes to the skirt which are not noticeable at all when worn due to the yards of pleated fabric used. Please message for detailed pictures. A beautiful investment piece that will continue to increase in value. An iconic museum worthy Alaia.
