  • 1952 Iconic "Singin' In The Rain" Movie Worn Embroidered Taupe Wool Coat

An important slice of 'Old Hollywood' movie-worn magic! This gorgeous light taupe embroidered wool coat, designed by Walter Plunkett, is the actual garment worn by Jean Hagen as Lina Lamont in the iconic 1952 MGM film "Singin' In The Rain". Jean Hagen was even nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Lina Lamont. The costumes designed by Plunkett for Jean Hagen's character as silent film star Lina Lamont are as dramatic as her character. Lamont's grating voice as talking pictures are beginning to take over threatens the future of her career. Hagen wears this gorgeous coat in the scene where Lina Lamont and Don Lockwood (played by Gene Kelly) attend the premiere of their first sound film, a disaster which Lamont is oblivious to as she remarks, "Sounds good and loud, huh?" The coat itself is a masterpiece. I love the easy-to-wear cocoon flapper style silhouette. The elaborate black deco cord embroidery and faux-fur trimmed collar add the perfect amount of drama to the garment. A timeless piece of American movie history from a renowned costume designer. "Singin In The Rain" has been accorded legendary status by contemporary critics, and is often regarded as the greatest musical film ever made, and one of the greatest films ever made. With Cyd Charisse's dress from the movie bringing $30,000 at auction and Gene Kelly's outfit recently selling for $85,000, this is a true once in a lifetime opportunity without the pressure of competitive bidding. Comes with official Certificate of Authenticity from Debbie Reynolds who also starred in this iconic film!
