  • 1968 Rudi Gernreich Museum-Held Black Wool Jersey Cut Out Swimsuit

    ID: 0704233
    Size: medium
    Condition: Excellent

A highly coveted and museum-held Rudi Gernreich wool jersey cut-out swimsuit dating back to his 1968 collection. A fearless designer, Rudi Gernreich’s body conscious garments dazzled the fashion world with originality and vision. Gernreich held a futurist view of fashion that resulted in innovations such as using plastic in clothes and removing inner construction. His designs promoted a "freeing" of the body as well as unified fashion. Our swimsuit is such a gorgeous example of his work. Exposing a portion of the body in most of his swimwear designs, in this piece he has chosen to cut-out the front and the back, adjoining the top and bottom at the sides! The vibe reads so modern and could easily be worn today. As shown, this iconic swimsuit is also part of the MET museum collection. A rare wearable piece of fashion history that will instantly become a favorite in your collection.
