  • 1930's Middle Eastern Couture Metallic Gold Embroidered Black Chiffon Caftan

A sensational 1930's museum-quality treasure! With its metallic gold sparkle and breathtaking silhouette, this rare garment makes a memorable impression. The workmanship on the elegant semi-sheer silk chiffon is unbelievable; the brilliant metallic color and hand-stitched sequins look so strikingly modern. The embroidery is from a hand guided Cornely machine that makes unique micro chain-stitch. It is meant to be worn loosely and the semi-sheer fabric lends itself well to the diaphanous effect. It also has a train which adds to its elegance. I love the ability to hide the body beneath billowing folds, with transparent fabrics hinting subtly at the seductive female form. A rare piece of wearable fashion history.
