  • 1955 Christian Dior Haute Couture Documented Charcoal-Gray Wool Sheath Dress

Breathtaking museum-quality Christian Dior Haute Couture "Y" Line Claro sheath dress dating back to his Fall-Winter 1955 collection. While the House of Dior is still a thriving business today, Dior's untimely death in 1957 left the fashion world without a great dictator of style. Christian Dior designed under his own name for only a decade, but his influence is everlasting. Here is a rare opportunity to own a breathtaking dress from Dior himself before passing away. This garment from his 1955 collection is fashioned in a gorgeous charcoal gray fully-lined wool. The same model was worn by Dovima and photographed by Richard Avedon for the Harpers Bazaar September 1955 editorial, which also included the iconic "Dovima with Elephants" photo. The garment was also published in Vogue's September 1955 issue. I love the dramatic wide-collar and 3/4-length sleeves. The figure flattering sheath skirt with front pockets emphasizes a woman's seductive shape without adding any bulk or volume to the actual hips. As Dior once said, "Elegance must be the right combination of distinction, naturalness, care and simplicity." This classic dress is a wonderful mix of these elements. A rare piece of wearable fashion history.

    Measurements
    Bust: 37-38 inches
    Waist: 30 inches
    Hips: 40 inches
    Total Length: 46 inches

This stunning 1955 Christian Dior Haute Couture dress is in excellent condition with no rips, stains or holes. Original buttons in place. The workmanship is immaculate and all hand-finished. Only signs of age is some slight tearing to the inside silk-organza lining and zipper professinally replaced back in the late 1950's. Highly wearable and an investment piece that will continue to increase in value. A true rarity.
