  • 1967 Hanae Mori Psychedelic Butterfly Print Silk Caftan Blouse & Pants

    ID: 0706233
    Size: small
    Condition: Excellent

Ultra chic and instantly recognizable caftan blouse pantsuit from Hanae Mori's 1967 spring/summer collection. Whilst on a Paris holiday in 1960, Mori had a fateful fitting with Coco Chanel. She claimed this meeting changed her life and she challenged herself to realize her own dream of designing haute couture. She returned to her small Tokyo office, where she had been designing significant numbers of costumes for directors including Ozu, Oshima and Kurosawa. She had been thinking of throwing in the towel, but this meeting gave her new enthusiasm and a new challenge. By 1965 she had launched her own collection and had orders from prestigious stores such as Neiman Marcus. This is everything you look for in a Hanae Mori treasure. It has her spectacular custom designed psychedelic butterfly print on 'light as a feather' silk. So colorful! The blouse has that draped, goddess, flowing feel that collectors crave when they look for the best of Hanae's pieces. I love the matching wide-leg trousers which would also look fantastic paired with a crop top or bustier. Perfect for any beach vacation or resort wedding! Hanae Mori is the only woman of Japanese descent to have presented on the Paris and New York Runways and the first Asian woman to be admitted as an official haute couture house. You can see why in this rare and highly coveted example of her work.
