  • 1956 Jacques Griffe Haute Couture Documented Embroidered Beaded Ivory Satin Gown

    ID: 107233
    Size: small
    Condition: Excellent

A magnificent, well-documented Jacques Griffe haute couture heavily embroidered and beaded ivory satin gown dating back to his 1956 fall-winter collection. From 1936 to 1939 Jacques Griffe worked with Madeleine Vionnet as a cutter, before launching his own couture house in 1942. Griffe is particularly known for his mastery of draping, which he developed while at Vionnet, and for his strong technical skills. He paid tribute to his mentor not only through his cutting and draping, but by featuring his own fingerprint on his dress labels as Vionnet herself did. So special! This captivating gown is fashioned from luxurious mid-weight ivory silk satin that has been heavily beaded and embroidered by hand. The impressive embellished leaf motif throughout, in shades of blue and cream, gives the dress so much interest. This workmanship alone must have taken months to complete. The wide neck cap-sleeve bodice has a rich royal blue velvet ribbon which really catches the eye. I love how the ribbon flows into a dramatic back bow. The nipped waist pleated full skirt really gives the gown a beautiful silhouette. Very Christian Dior! It is impeccably seamed and made with haute couture standards. We showed many images so you can see how gorgeous the gown is from all angles. An unforgettable, museum worthy elegant look for a modern wedding or red carpet event.

This 1950's documented Jacques Griffe haute couture couture gown is in wonderful wearable condition. Perfectly working original side metal-zipper in place. Signs of age include faint stains, mostly near the bottom gown hem skirting, some missing beadwork and two small repairs by the back bottom skirt. Please message for detailed pictures. A stunning mid-century gown that you will treasure for years to come.
