  • 1970 Ossie Clark Vogue Documented Traffic-Light Block Color Crepe Dress

    ID: 1125232
    Size: small
    Condition: excellent

A well documented and instantly recognizable Ossie Clark block color 'traffic light' moss crepe dress dating back to his 1970 fall/winter collection. English fashion designer, Raymond "Ossie" Clark, was a leading light in the London 'swinging sixties' fashion era. Finding his pieces now is such a thrill because they are rare, incredible unique and highly collectible. This iconic 'traffic light' block color dress is a perfect example of his playful genius. As shown, model Penelope Tree famously wore a version of our dress for the July 1970 issue of Vogue magazine and the dress was Dusty Springfield's choice pick when performing her hit song "Spooky"! This stunning garment is fashioned in black, red, mint-green and yellow moss crepe. The bodice has a flirty low-cut plunge with slightly puffed shoulders and mirroring block color long sleeves. I love the front covered button closures and flattering curved waist! The waterfall short to long gathered skirting reads so modern and really comes alive with movement. Ossie Clark’s talent comes from his ability to borrow from the past but capture the spirit of the now, creating timeless designs with a strong sense of place. In Judith Watt’s book, Ossie Clark: 1965-1974, Anna Sui explains, "He dressed the woman we all wanted to be: the rock star’s girlfriend." So as long as there is rock, Clark’s look is one that won’t fall from style.

This 1970 fall/winter Ossie Clark couture designer dress is in beautiful condition with no rips, holes or alternations. Perfectly working original covered buttons. Only sign of age is two very faint spots on the yellow skirt crepe which are not noticeable when worn. Please message for detailed pictures. Highly wearable and an investment piece that will continue to increase in value.
