  • 1959 Hall Ludlow Couture Museum-Held Black Silk Appliquéd Petals Hourglass Gown

    ID: 0204243
    Size: small
    Condition: excellent

An incredibly beautiful and ultra rare Hall Ludlow for House of Karel black appliquéd petals black silk strapless gown dating back to his fall/winter 1959 collection. Often described as Australia’s first couturier, Hall Ludlow built a reputation for his stylish and sophisticated custom-made designs. His dresses are unique, inspired by international trends in women’s fashion. Paule Paulus, a former model at Christian Dior in Paris, was such a fan that she agreed to model his first collection. The fashion icon Jackie O herself was a client of his as well! It's no surprise Ludlow won the prestigious Australian Gown of the Year award in 1955 and 1959. Our stunning black silk gown is such a sensational example of his special work and, as shown, is even archived at the National Gallery of Victoria Museum. This captivating gown is embellished with hundreds of silk organza petals at the bustline and cascading down the skirt. The strapless bodice is complete with very structured corset style boning to provide the utmost support. The hourglass nipped waist is met by a chic side satin bow. The high-slit wrap style skirting makes this gown so seductive and effortless to wear. The craftsmanship is simply magnificent; the concept reads so modern and timeless. We added many pictures so you can appreciate this beautiful achievement. A gorgeous museum-held rare gown that would definitely make an unforgettable wedding guest or red carpet look.
