  • 1960's Arnold Scaasi Couture Ivory Satin Feather Strapless Gown w/ Shawl

An absolutely gorgeous Arnold Scaasi custom couture ivory silk-satin feathered gown dating back to the mid 1960's. Scaasi started his career designing for Charles James in the 1950's. He opened his own ready-to-wear business with $2,000 in savings and sold his clothes to more than 200 retailers. Over the years, his client list grew to include such icons as Elizabeth Taylor, Barbra Streisand, Mary Tyler Moore and Jacqueline Kennedy. This glamourous ensemble is a beautiful example of his genius. The strapless boned bodice has a beautiful fold-over design. I love the nipped hourglass with drop-waist feather design. So incredibly figure flattering! The stylized charm of the matching over-sized shawl personify 'Old Hollywood' luxury. As shown, it can be styled a number of ways. These early American couturier pieces are rare, as they were not mass produced and were incredibly expensive to make. This stunning piece of fashion history would make an unforgettable bridal or red carpet look. So Marilyn Monroe! The pictures say it all.
