  • 1971 Thea Porter Documented Black & Red Floral Print Cotton 'Gipsy' Dress

Gorgeous 1971 Thea Porter documented designer dress fashioned in a magical semi-sheer floral print black and red voile cotton. The stunning fabric is trimmed in metallic gold that has a touch of shimmer which I adore. The bodice has a closed key-hole front and 3/4-length billow sleeves. I love the handkerchief style full skirting which looks beautiful when you walk. As you can see this particular dress is also a favorite in Kate Moss's collection.

Thea Porter was largely inspired by fashion from the Victorian and Renaissance eras. This is easily identifiable by intricately decorated and unique patterns. During the early 1970's, her clothing attracted many celebrity customers who enjoyed wearing her erotic, yet comfortable, creations whose secret was to conceal rather than reveal. She admits her fashions were created in that particular style as she "has always felt very envious of Arab women because they can hide behind their clothes, it is a very protected and secure way to feel." This dress is truly exquisite and we took many pictures so you can see why.

    Measurements
    Bust: 34-35 inches
    Waist: 27 inches
    Hips: Free Sweep
    Sleeve Length: 19 inches
    Total Length: 54 inches

This rare Thea Porter designer dress is in excellent condition with no fade or alternations. Closes with original back middle zipper. Only signs of age are one small spot on the skirt which gets lost in the folds and one area of fray by the right sleeve. Please message for detailed pictures. The same garment was featured on page 91 of the book "Thea Porter, Bohemian Chic" by Laura McLaws Helms. An identical dress was exhibited in a Thea Porter retrospective of her work at the Fashion and Textile Museum in London. A wearable and beautiful investment piece.
