  • 1971 Thea Porter Brocaded Cotton & Lace Low Cut Billow-Sleeve Maxi Dress

Gorgeous early-1970's Thea Porter designer couture dress fashioned in a magical plum purple cotton gauze brocade that has red and ivory diamond medallions scattered over its surface. The stunning fabric has a touch of sheerness which I love. The bodice has a seductive low-cut empire waist plunge and voluminous elastic cuff billow-sleeves. My favorite detail is the ivory lace overlay around both arms and the bottom portion of the skirting. I love the maxi length wide set flat pleats that give such beautiful movement when you walk. Thea Porter was largely inspired by fashion from the Victorian and Renaissance eras. This is easily identifiable by intricately decorated and unique patterns. During the early 1970's, her clothing attracted many celebrity customers who enjoyed wearing her erotic, yet comfortable, creations whose secret was to conceal rather than reveal. She admits her fashions were created in that particular style as she "has always felt very envious of Arab women because they can hide behind their clothes, it is a very protected and secure way to feel." This dress is truly exquisite and we took many pictures so you can see why.

    Measurements
    Bust: 35-36 inches
    High Waist: 28 inches
    Hips: up to 42 inches
    Sleeve Length: 27 inches
    Total Length: 55 inches

This rare Thea Porter designer dress is in excellent condition with no rips or holes. The label on this dress narrows down the dating process, as it was only produced between October 1971-March 1972. This was verified by Laura McLaws Helms, the author of the book "Thea Porter, Bohemian Chic". Perfectly working back zipper. After close inspection we found a few major spots which are not noticeable when worn. Please message for detailed pictures. A wearable and beautiful investment piece.
