  • 1959 Yves Saint Laurent for Christian Dior Haute-Couture Ivory Silk & Mink Coat

We are pleased to offer this important and incredibly rare 'Dame Blanche' titled coat from the Christian Dior collection of 1959. The House of Dior has been an enduring icon of Haute-Couture. While the House of Dior is still a thriving business today, Dior's untimely death in 1957 left the fashion world without a great dictator of style. Christian Dior designed under his own name for only a decade, but his influence is everlasting. When the talented Yves Saint Laurent took over as head designer, he continued the Dior tradition of elegant design and this beautiful garment is a wonderful example. The coat is fashioned in a stunning ivory, fully-lined, heavy silk-twill fabric. The luxurious wide mink-fur collar extends down the front to the hemline. It is easy to see the level of quality in this piece; the fur is extremely supple and soft. The bodice has chic 3/4-length sleeves and matching waist belt. I adore the bow trimmed belted hourglass nipped-waist. As Dior once said, "Elegance must be the right combination of distinction, naturalness, care and simplicity." This couture treasure is a wonderful mix of these elements.

This stunning Christian Dior Paris numbered 99020 documented coat has wonderful workmanship and is all hand-finished. Silk lining is in gorgeous shape. Signs of age are small areas of splitting and surface abrasion. Would be best for display/study due to the important historical nature of the piece. Please message for detailed pictures. A serious investment piece that will continue to increase in value.
