Breathtaking B. Altman Couture metallic silk-lame evening dance dress dating back to the mid 1920's. B. Altman and Company was a luxury department store, founded in 1865 in New York City, by Benjamin Altman. The ethereal pink and gold color palette touches a deep chord in our collective aesthetic consciousness. As fashion lovers, we never tire from antique fabrics; they will always be fresh to modern eyes. I adore the shimmer gold threading around the deco petal motif patterned fabric. The sleeveless bodice has a gorgeous side flower-applique which mirrors the petal print. The colorful enamel belt is masterpiece in itself. My favorite design element is the asymmetric draped ombre silk-fringe that wraps around the whole garment. This detail is very similar to a famous well-documented 1926 Chanel Couture dress. We added many pictures so one can appreciate the masterful achievement. A true piece of wearable art from 100 years ago.
Bust: 34 inches

This B. Altman designer dress is in excellent condition with no notable holes or tears. Only sign of age is slight underarm tarnish which is hard to detect when worn and one slight spot which is hidden by the belted sash. The garment closes with matching slip side metal-snaps. A wearable museum quality treasure.
