Bob Mackie began his career as a Hollywood costuming sketch artist, working for both Edith Head and Jean Louis. While working with designer Ray Aghayan, Mackie soon began creating evening clothing for the divas who would make him a household name- most notably Carol Burnett, Diana Ross and Cher. This breathtaking goddess gown, dating back to a 1979 custom design, is a perfect example of his genius. The fabric itself is a masterpiece; metallic gold threaded leaf motif onto ivory white "light as a feather" Indian silk. The flattering bodice is a low-cut plunge fully-boned ruched strapless with metallic rope trimming. I love the asymmetric twisted-knot draped detailing. The yards and yards of flowing silk-chiffon, with gathered side and back, finish off this garment with a beautiful ethereal vibe. Complete with matching shawl and headdress. I totally see this starlet gown gliding down the red carpet.
