The House of Dior has been an enduring icon of Haute-Couture. While the House of Dior is still a thriving business today, Dior's untimely death in 1957 left the fashion world without a great dictator of style. Christian Dior designed under his own name for only a decade, but his influence is everlasting. When the talented Marc Bohan took over as head designer in 1960, he continued the Dior tradition of elegant design. This beautiful formal gown, which was featured in his 1986 Spring/Summer collection, is a perfect example of his talent. The fabric used for this garment is breathtaking; ivory white and black "light as a feather" silk-taffeta. The flattering gathered bodice has lean 3/4-length sleeves and a seductive sash that flows into the most gorgeous side bow. The hourglass waistline with sculpted mermaid flounce skirting is a wonderful nod to 1950's traditional New Look construction. As Dior once said, "Elegance must be the right combination of distinction, naturalness, care and simplicity." This couture treasure is a wonderful mix of these elements!
