A breathtaking Paquin French haute-couture cocktail dress in one of the prettiest shades of deep royal blue. The House of Paquin was opened on the rue de la Paix in 1890 by Jeanne Paquin (1869-1936). The establishment was very successful and grew to be one of the largest fashion houses in Paris, with branches in London, Madrid, and Buenos Aires. This documented museum-quality garment is fashioned in luxurious silk velvet which feels heavenly when worn. The bodice is an elegant pleated shelf-bust with lean, long sleeves. I love the curved bias-cut with flows into an gorgeous swing skirt. The House of Paquin helped make the period 1910-1952 an era of artistic refinement in haute-couture and confirmed Paris as pre-eminent center of fashion. This is an irreplaceable and important piece of fashion history.
