Breathtaking Pierre Balmain watercolor blue floral garden dress dating back to his 1958 collection. Pierre Balmain worked under Robert Pigiuet, Molyneux, and Lucian Lelong, where he worked closely with Christian Dior. In 1945 he finally opened his own couture house. Balmain created a very sculptural quality which was always allied with a ladylike essence. His garments have a body and a shape of their own. This alluring silk-organdy cocktail dress is a wonderful example of his genius. The bodice is a corset boned strapless with stunning criss-cross panel construction. Just look at the flawless shaping as it flows into the back gathered design! The nipped waist full skirted silhouette really flatters the figure. Overall construction is true couture-level as one would expect from such a skilled designer. Balmain's glamorous garments were worn by the likes of Bridget Bardot, Katherine Hepburn and Marlene Dietrich and I can surely see why.
