Spectacular late 1960's Pierre Cardin pleated silk chiffon babydoll mini dress in a vibrant psychedelic print. In 1951 Cardin opened his own couture house and by 1957, he started a ready-to-wear line; a bold move for a French couturier at the time. The look most associated with Cardin is the 'Space Age' collections of the 1960's which made some of the most futuristic clothing of the era. This colorful number is a perfect example of his genuine. As shown, Mia Farrow wears a similar accordion pleated op-art dress in the 1968 film 'A Dandy in Aspic'. The construction of this garment is amazing; tightly pleated silk chiffon secured into place at the hem with a wide structured hemline that gives the dress weight. The semi-sheer sleeves are cut narrow at the shoulder and end with beautiful button-cuffs. I adore a-line mini silhouette which is so figure flattering. The matching sash can be styled a number of ways; around the waist, as a neck-scarf or as a back bow! A beautiful piece of wearable fashion history. "The clothing I prefer are those I invent for a life that doesn’t yet exist– the world of tomorrow!" Pierre Cardin
