An absolutely gorgeous and incredibly rare Thea Porter couture bohemian silk ensemble dating back to 1971. This magical look was custom made for Margaret 'Bea' Larsson who was a close friend of Thea Porter. The magnificent gown is fashioned in the most beautiful blue patterned silk chiffon, designed by Hannah Meckler, with a sparkling metallic damascus silk brocade bodice. This beautiful print can be found in the book 'Thea Porter: Bohemian Chic' by Laura McLaws Helms and Venetia Porter on page 84. This special 'wave' pattern is confirmed to be all done by hand and "painted onto meters of silk chiffon that were made into evening dresses and Abayas". I adore the peeks of skin that show through the front-tie smocked design. Those voluminous tie cuff billow-sleeves look incredible with movement. The matching full-length vest is a statement piece in its own right. The light blue wood-grain patterned silk moiré is trimmed with metallic gold ribbon and the end result is true perfection. Thea Porter was largely inspired by fashion from the Victorian and Renaissance eras. This is easily identifiable by her use of luxurious textiles and layered construction. She once said, "It’s important that the end result should be my own romantic fantasies." During the early 1970's, her clothing attracted many celebrity customers who enjoyed wearing her erotic yet comfortable creations whose secret was to conceal rather than reveal. Her clients, some of whom also became her friends, included Lauren Bacall, Bianca & Mick Jagger, Sharon Tate, Elizabeth Taylor, and Pete Townshend. A truly important museum worthy ensemble by the queen of the bohemian fashion movement.
